My Week at Camp – Tuesday
Tuesday morning find’s these 9-11 year olds raring to go! They are fueled up from breakfast and the fresh air and exercise they got at their skills and now it’s chapel time.
Is sin really a problem?
God created us to have a relationship with Him, but because God is holy our sin causes a barrier between us and God and that relationship is broken.
I brought some props with me to help the kids understand this important concept:
1. Golden Circle – This reminds us of God. It is golden to remind us that God is holy and can’t stand sin. It’s a circle to remind us that God is eternal. There is no beginning and no ending.
2. Little People – These people remind us of us! We are people created by God, loved by God, who have sinned against God.
3. Lego Blocks – I start building a wall with the lego blocks. The wall will go up in between the golden circle and the little people. As I build the wall, I talk with the kids about what sin is and how it affects our relationship with God. Sin causes a barrier between us and God.
We were created by God to be friends with God. God loves us and created us to have a special relationship with Him, but there’s a problem. Something has caused a barrier to go up between us and God and that something is sin. We can’t have a close relationship with God because sin is in the way. Because of sin we can’t be friends with God. That’s a huge problem because we will either spend forever with God or forever without God.
“When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” Romans 5:12
So, back to our BIG question, “Is sin really a problem?” Yes, it is. Sin causes a barrier between us and God and sin has to be paid for. But God loves us so much that He has a plan to solve the problem. A plan that would break down that barrier and pay for our sins; a plan that would make a way for us to be forgiven for our sin.
I’ll tell you what that plan was tomorrow!
