This is a game of strategy. Kids love this game! Pirate is a quiet, circle game that is great as a transition from more active games. It is also a great choice if you are in a situation where you don’t have a lot of space or if you have to be quiet because other things are going on in the building.
This game can be played inside or outside. The only equipment it requires is a large bunch or keys and a blindfold. It is best suited to small or medium groups. If you have a large group of kids you may want to have multiple games going at the same time.
The object of Pirate for the Pirate is to guess correctly who took the keys. The object of Pirate for everyone sitting in the circle is to take the keys without getting caught.
Choose one player to be the pirate. That player will be required to sit in the middle of the circle, blindfolded with his/her legs crossed. All the other plays will circle the Pirate while sitting with their legs crossed.
Place a ring of keys on the floor in front of the Pirate. [The bigger the ring of keys the better because the more keys on the ring, the harder it is to pick them up and move them quietly.] A player is nominated to slowly creep up, attempt to take the keys and then return to their place without the pirate hearing them.
The Pirate has three tries to point to guess where he thinks the thief is. If the thief succeeds, he/she becomes the new Pirate.
1. All children play at the same time. No one is left out.
2. It is easy to learn and simple to play, yet involves some strategy and stealth.
3. It is a quick game. You can play as many rounds as you have time for.
4. If you have a larger group of kids, you can have 2 or more games going on simultaneously.
